JAPAN: JAPAN BLACK & WHITE (1981)
The first stop on my very first trip to Asia was in Japan. It was late March, and the cherry blossoms were in bloom, and various Shinto Buddhist spring festivals were going on. What made it extra special were my Japanese hosts, Akira and Akiko. They lived in Kamakura, 30 miles outside of Tokyo and every morning I took the train into the city with the rest of the commuters. I loved exploring this maze-like city of distinct neigborhoods. As a native New Yorker, I had always loved rubbing shoulders in the crowded streets- so I was in heaven in Ginza and Shinjuku.
