LAHORE PAKISTAN (2013): ELECTIONS
I arrived in Pakistan a week before elections. It marked the first democratic transition between civilian governments in the nation’s 66-year history. Despite the risks of violence during the voting there was a 60 percent turnout at the polls. Nawaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League won. The tiger is the symbol for his party. Almost all of the political posters were taken down the following day. It’s still too early to tell how this might effect Pakistani- American relations but there is cautious optimism.
